Strongbow returns once again as the proud sponsor of the Borneo Jazz Festival, which is now in its ninth successful year. Organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board, the festival will be held on May 9th and 10th 2014 at Parkcity Averly Hotel, Miri, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and Visit Sarawak Year 2014.
As an international premium cider, Strongbow has established a unique tie with Borneo Jazz Festival through their partnership. Both share the same authenticity values, which ultimately brought to fruition a refreshing music experience.
“We are proud to once again be in partnership with Borneo Jazz Festival, a festival that provides festivalgoers an opportunity to kick back and relax whilst experiencing of Sarawak’s culture. It’s definitely a festival that is one of its kind and will certainly be a memorable weekend for them,” said Jessie Chuah, Marketing Manager of Guinness Anchor Berhad.
As is with previous years, the festival—supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and Ministry of Tourism Sarawak—will showcase an impressive line-up of international jazz musicians coupled with soulful talents from the local scene.
Be sure to check out first timers Iriao from Georgia, an eight-piece ethno-jazz band all set to introduce jazz-embellished Georgian folk instrumental and polyphonic music. Another interesting line-up is Vocal Sampling, an all-male acappella group from Cuba, who are expected to be a hit at this year’s festival. Also up to wow the crowd are Germany’s Brassballett—the first and only show worldwide where musicians are alsodancers. Be amazed as they perform a choreographed show whilst playing their instruments.
Dazzling the crowd is Martinique’s creole jazz virtuoso Mario Canonge with West Indies rhythms, and UK’s Anthony Strong—described as “England’s new jazz superstar”, a major talent tipped to take his place in the retro-contemporary jazz pantheon alongside Gregory Porter and Michael Buble.
Closer to home, be ready to be enchanted by Indonesia’s YK Band, who will feature jazz with hints of Borneo essence. And our very own Sarawakian born artist, Diana Liu and her band will charm the crowd with pop, jazz, bossa nova, gospel and funk/soul beats.
So pack your bags and leave behind the hustle and bustle of your city life for a weekend of indulgence on the island of Borneo with a chilled bottle of Strongbow. For more information, be sure to check out www.facebook.com/strongbow.my
