Malayan Breweries Ltd (a joint venture between Heineken and Fraser & Neave) is set up in Singapore to brew beers for the Malaysia and Singapore markets.
Malayan Breweries Ltd begins production and launches the Tiger Beer brand.
Malayan Breweries Ltd aquired Archipelago Brewing Company and its Anchor Beer Brand.
Malayan Breweries (Malaya) was incorporated as a privately-controlled subsidiary of Malayan Breweries Ltd, based in Singapore.
Malayan Breweries (Malaya) opens its brewery in Sungei Besi.
Guinness Malaysia Berhad was incorporated.
Sungei Way Brewery began operations and on the 9th August 1965, Guinness Stout production started in Malaysia.
On 19th March the following year, the brewery was officially launched by Y.T.M. Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Anchor Draught is launched in Malaysia.
Muhammad Ali visited Sungei Way Brewery.
Guinness Malaysia Berhad started producing Anglia Shandy.
Guinness Draught is launched in Malaysia.
Malayan Breweries (Malaya) launches Heineken in the Malaysian market.
Guinness Malta is launched.
Guinness introduced plastic crates to replace millions of conventional wooden crates.
Tiger is launched in Johor to kick-off its rollout in the Malaysia market.
On 14th November, the proposed merger between Guinness Malaysia Berhad and Malayan Breweries (Malaya) is approved at the Extraordinary General Meeting.
Guinness Anchor Berhad is born.
Tiger Draught is introduced, first in Johor then Ipoh.
A new lager production facility in Sungei Way Brewery is commissioned. By March 1992, all lager production had been centralised at the Sungei Way Brewery and the Sungai Besi brewery ceased operations.
GAB became the first brewery in Malaysia to achieve ISO: 9002 accreditation for quality standards.
GAB became the first brewery in the country to receive the Ministry of Health’s Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Certification.
Also in the same year, Anchor was re-launched into Anchor Smooth.
Malaysia was named the largest Guinness market in Aisa and the first country worldwide to launch the Guinness Foreign Extra Stout bottle. Heineken ranked 35 amongst Asia’s Top 1,000 brands.
GAB receives its first global Guinness League of Excellence award for having the best Guinness brewed outside of Dublin, Ireland.
Tiger celebrates its 75th anniversary with linited edition memorabilia.
GAB Foundation was launched to spearhead GAB’s CSR activities focusing on three areas: Environmental Conservation, Education and Community Outreach.
GAB won the coveted international Tiger Quality Award for delivering outstanding quality standards of Tiger Beer.
Guinness celebrated the brand’s 250th anniversary, while GAB scored a number of awards.
First Big Day Out is organized where all GAB employees get to dedicate a working to CSR activities in local communities.
The Drink Sensibly initiative is launched.
Guinness holds the largest live Arthur’s Day Celebration with 20,000 attendees, headlined by Taio Cruz, while GAB’s awardhaul grows; AREA Awards 2011 for Investment in People, Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) Sustainability Awards 2011 for Human Resources and for Community Development.
In July 2012, GAB launched the new Heineken bottle, the first returnable bottle with Clear Plastic Label (CPL) in the Asia Pacific region.

Our brands continue to be the Malaysian People’s Choice as we receive 3 more Putra Brands Awards bringing the toal number to 16 awards in the past 5 years (2010 – 2014).
Heineken was inducted into the Putra Brands Icon hall of fame for winning the Gold award for 4 consecutive years. Tiger achieved a silver this year.
On 7 October 2015, Heineken N.V. acquired the remaining shares owned by Diageo plc in GAPL Pte Ltd, which is GAB’s major shareholder. Heineken now owns 100% of GAPL which in turn holds 51% interest in GAB.
GAB officially changed its name to Heineken Malaysia Berhad on 21 April 2016 to reflect the corporate identity of the company and its relationship with the Heineken Group of companies.

HEINEKEN Malaysia was named one of the top Malaysian companies at the CSR Malaysia Awards 2017 for our environment initiatives and community work.
The branding of GAB Foundation to SPARK Foundation.
We once again clinched multiple honours at the Putra Brand Awards 2018. Heineken won a Gold, while both Tiger and Guinness took home Silvers.
HEINEKEN Malaysia won two awards at the Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) 2018: the Best Water Management Awards and Special Recognition for Flagship Initiative.
Our brewery was upgraded from MS ISO 9001: 2008 to ISO 9001:2015.
We won three awards at the Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) 2019: Best Water Management Award for the second consecutive year, and two Special Recognition Awards for Sustainability in the Community and Waste & Material Productivity.
We also celebrated another year of success as we received three more awards at the Putra Brand Awards 2019 for the tenth consecutive year, bringing our total awards won at the Putra Brand Awards to 30 since 2010. Heineken® won Platinum, while Tiger Beer and Guinness both won Gold.
HEINEKEN Malaysia won 3 awards at the Putra Brand Awards with Tiger Beer bringing home the prestigious Platinum Award, while Heineken® achieved Gold, and Guinness won Silver.
Our environmental initiatives and community work were also recognised at the CSR Malaysia Awards and we were once again named one of the top Malaysian companies at the CSR Malaysia Awards.
Launched Edelweiss, the premium wheat beer born in the Alps
Clinched 3 more awards at Putra Brand Awards 2021, with Heineken® and Tiger Beer winning Gold and Guinness achieving Silver.
Balanced more than 100% of water used in our products in 2020, achieving 267% vs our water balancing target in 2020. We achieved this milestone 10 years ahead of our 2030 commitment.
Launched our second social impact programme, HEINEKEN Cares, to help mitigate the negative impacts of a prolonged lockdown. The programme connects employee wellness with community purpose, with a commitment to donate 1 meal for every 1,000 steps a HEINEKEN Malaysia employee took. Through the programme, 150,000 meals were donated to needy communities and a further 100,000 meals and care packages were distributed to flood victims in December 2021.
At the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2021, Heineken Malaysia was awarded the Company of the Year in the Manufacturing & Beverage Category for supporting micro businesses & enterprises during the pandemic – in recognition of the outstanding work to Support Our Stakeholders at the height of COVID-19 through campaigns as well as for our environmental sustainability efforts, in particular recognising the excellence of our water stewardship initiatives that has helped our company reach more than 100% water balance, 10 years ahead of our 2030 commitment.
Launched BLADE, a revolutionary ‘Plug and Pour’ professional draught system that serves freshly poured pints of Heineken® beer anywhere and everywhere.

Launched HEINEKEN Cares 2022, where we transitioned from short-term food aid to long-term food security. We upscaled our commitment whereby for every 1,000 steps a HEINEKEN Malaysia employee takes, we commit one meal to a person in need through building sustainable food sources.
Won two awards at the United Nations Global Compact Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) Sustainability Performance Awards 2022 in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Ambition Benchmarks Awards category. HEINEKEN Malaysia was awarded for:

– SDG Ambition Benchmark 3: Zero waste to landfill and incineration
