Kuala Lumpur, 30 June 2026 — HEINEKEN Malaysia Berhad (HEINEKEN Malaysia) today announced that Datuk Iain John Lo will be appointed as Chairman of the Board, succeeding Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, effective 15 August 2026.
Dato’ Sri Idris will relinquish his role as Chairman and Director in accordance with best practices under the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG) framework issued by the Securities Commission of Malaysia, which advocates a nine-year tenure limit for independent directors. Dato’ Sri Idris will continue to support the Group as Advisor effective the same date.
The Board and Management recorded their sincere appreciation to Dato’ Sri Idris for his leadership and significant contributions over the past nine years. Since joining the Board in January 2017, he has provided strong stewardship and guidance, helping to navigate the Group through a period of transformation and resilience, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his chairmanship, the Board oversaw key strategic priorities, including digital transformation, strengthening route-to-consumer capabilities, and major brewery upgrades.
Datuk Iain John Lo is a seasoned Malaysian corporate leader with over three decades of experience across the energy, banking, and telecommunications sectors. He spent more than 30 years with Shell, culminating in his role as Country Chairman of Shell Malaysia Limited from 2012 until his retirement in March 2021. During his tenure, he held a broad range of leadership roles across the exploration and production, gas and downstream businesses in Malaysia and internationally. He also served as Chairman of Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Berhad until the company was sold in 2016. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Guardians of the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund. He is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of RHB Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad, and a board member of Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd. Datuk Iain holds a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Commenting on the appointment, the Board expressed confidence that Datuk Iain’s extensive leadership experience positions him well to oversee and guide the business through an increasingly dynamic and complex operating environment, further enhancing the Group’s strategic direction.
